Analyses

Analyses are used to capture and manage laboratory analysis records in Assetas. This module is designed to support workflows where operators collect samples in the field, submit them to a laboratory, and then record (or import) the lab results back into Assetas for reporting and calculation use cases. This module is often used in Oil & Gas.

Analyses are configured and used in three layers:

  1. Analysis Type (Configuration prerequisite)
    1. Defines the analysis framework (example: Gas Analysis) and strictly controls which asset types the analysis can be associated to.
    2. Click the link to learn more about the Analysis Type
  2. Property Type (Configuration prerequisite)
    1. Defines the result fields that can be recorded on an analysis (example: BSFC (Btu/hp-hr)), including units of measure and (optionally) material linkage.
    2. Click the link to learn more about the Property Type
  3. Analysis Record (Operational data)
    1. The individual lab/sample record (example: Gas Analysis for HARLEY 3-KI on 03/01/2024) with sample metadata, the associated asset, and one or more measured results stored as Properties.
    2. This article is the analysis record.

Search for an asset

  1. Expand “Assets” on the sidebar navigation.
  2. Select one of the list options:
    • “My Favorites” will display the list of assets that you indicated as your favorites.
    • The second predefined list (e.g., “Active”) includes all assets set as the default for newly defined assets (see Default Asset Status under Account Settings ). This is initially set by Assetas to “Active”.
    • “Search” will allow you to populate the data filter fields where applicable, or leave blank to view all asset records. Select “Search Data” upon completion to view results.
  3. Optionally print the search results by clicking the printer icon.

Search Tips

  • Expand the “Data Filters” section to limit the results based on specific fields.
  • Select “Refresh List” to load an updated list; alternatively, select “Reset” to clear all of the filters.
  • Select the “bookmark” icon to copy a search URL to your clipboard for bookmarking or later use.
  • Select column headers to sort by column, alphabetically.

Add a new analysis

  1. Expand the “Analysis” menu on the sidebar navigation.
  2. Select “New” to add an Analysis.
  3. Select the type of Analysis that you are creating.
  4. Populate the fields.  Data fields with an asterisk (*) are required.
  5. Select “Save” upon completion.

For instructions on how to bulk load Analyses, see Asset Import.

Basic information

Populate the fields:

  • Name*: The name of the analysis. Assetas recommends including a consistent identifier (e.g., sample type + sample identifier + date).
  • Type*: The type of analysis. The Analysis Type (e.g., Gas Analysis, Soil Sample).
  • Date*: The applicable date of the analysis. This date is commonly used as the “analysis date” for reporting.
  • Serial Number: Enter the asset’s serial number (if known).
  • Sample Number: The sample number of the analysis.
  • Sample Identifier: The sample identifier for the analysis. It is an optional identifier used in the field or by the lab (often the most important external reference).
  • Managed By: The person who manages this analysis. They are responsible for maintaining this analysis record.
    • The corresponding contact must be created prior to selection in this field.
  • Collector: The person/team who collected the sample.
    • The corresponding collector contact must be created prior to selection in this field.
  • Laboratory: The laboratory that performed the analysis
    • The corresponding laboratory contact must be created prior to selection in this field.
  • Laboratory Identifier: The laboratory’s unique identifier for the analysis.
  • Collection Date & Time: The date and time the analysis sample was collected. For example, when the field measurement/sample occurred.
  • Received Date & Time: The date and time the analysis sample was received by the vendor.
  • Tags: The list of tags associated with this record. Tags can be used for filtering and reporting.
  • External Identifier: A unique identifier that represents this record in an external system. This cannot be duplicated across analyses types.
  • Comments: Enter your comments or notes for the analysis. Comments are intended for your internal use.

Quick-Jump to Sections

When viewing an asset’s details, breadcrumb icons will be displayed next to the breadcrumb hierarchical path. These breadcrumb icons allow users to quickly jump to page sections by clicking on the corresponding icon.

Lock or unlock an analysis

A locked analysis allows users with appropriate access to view the asset details, while users with appropriate access can both view and edit an unlocked asset.

  1. Locate the analysis record and select the View/Edit button for the desired analysis.
  2. Toggle the “Lock” or “Unlock” button in the Details section.

Add Properties

Properties are custom fields that capture descriptive information for each analysis. Properties differ from attributes in that they are applicable to more than one asset type, can be linked to units, and have a datetime stamp. Properties capture measured results and descriptive values for an analysis (for example, BSFC, emissions factor values, lab-measured concentrations, etc.).

NOTE:

Add a Property

  1. Locate the analysis record and select the View/Edit button for the desired analysis.
  2. Select the “Add” button in the Properties section.
  •
  • On the next page, select the Property Type, then populate the following fields. Data fields with an asterisk (*) are required.
    • Property Type: The type of property that was analyzed. (e.g., BSFC (Btu/hp-hr), Ethane – mole %). Property Type defines the units and structure.
      • Note: The property type must already be created for it to show up in the dropdown.
    • Operator: The operator linked to the value. Commonly used for lab qualifiers (e.g., < 0.01).
    • Value: The analyzed value of the property.
    • Text: Any analyzed text value of the property.
    • Analysis Date & Time: The date and time the property was analyzed
    • Dilution Factor: The ratio of final volume of diluted sample to the initial volume of the original, undiluted sample.. Stored as a number and may be used in calculations (where configured).
    • Analyst: The name or identifier of the person who performed the analysis.
    • Location: The location where the analysis was performed.
    • Comments: Any comments you would like to store for this record.
    • External Identifier: The unique identifier that represents this record in an external system.
  1. Select “Save” upon completion.
  1.

Edit Properties

  1. Locate the asset record and select the View/Edit button for the desired asset.
  2. Under the Properties section you may:
    • Edit the property.
    • Delete the property.
  1.

Add associated assets

Asset Associations allow you to link an Analysis record to the asset the results apply to. This relationship keeps lab results and supporting metadata (sample identifiers, dates, laboratory details, and measured properties) organized in the correct operational context, so users can view analyses directly from the asset record and use the results in reporting and calculations.

  1. Locate the analysis record and select the View/Edit button for the desired analysis.
  2. Select the “Link” button in the Associated Assets section.
  3. Populate the fields.  Data fields with an asterisk (*) are required.
  4. Select “Add” upon completion.

Manage asset associations

  1. Locate the analysis record and select the View/Edit button for the desired analysis.
  2. Locate the Associated Assets blade and find the association you would like to manage.
  3. To the right of each association, under the corresponding Actions menu, you may:
    • View the associated asset.
    • Edit this association.
    • Remove this association. Note that this will remove the association only; this will not remove the record.
  1.

Manage analyses

  1. Locate the analysis record.
  2. To the right of each record, under the Actions menu, you may:
    • View detailed information or edit the analysis.
    • Copy this asset as a new analysis.
    • Download the analysis as a JSON file for import into another instance.
    • Delete this analysis and all associated data.
