What’s a QR code and how do I use it?
What’s a QR code?
A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that contains a link. When used within the Assetas application, QR codes can link directly to assets or form types.
How do I scan a QR code?
From your mobile device or tablet, you can either use a dedicated QR code scanning app, or many modern devices have a QR reader built into the camera function.
On an iPhone:
- Open your camera app and hover over the QR code. Ensure all four corners of the QR code are within the camera view.
- You should see a pop-up notification appear on the top of your screen.
- Tap the pop-up notification to be directed to the link within the QR code.
If you do not see a pop-up notification, you may not have the ‘Scan QR Codes’ feature enabled. To turn this on, go to Settings > Camera, and toggle on the Scan QR Codes option.
On an Android device:
- Press and hold the home button, then tap Lens. That’s the icon that looks like a circle surrounded by lines to the left of the four colored buttons at the bottom of your screen.
- Hover over the QR code. Ensure all four corners of the QR code are within the camera view.
- Tap the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of your screen to scan the QR code.
- Tap the pop-up notification to be directed to the link within the QR code.
How do I create a QR code?
For records with populated tracking codes, the QR code generator is found embedded within the record’s detail page.
- Locate a record with a populated tracking code.
- On the detail’s page, select the barcode icon to the right of the “Tracking Code”.
- Confirm the following fields. Data fields with an asterisk (*) are required.
- Encoded Information: Enter the information you wish to encode in the QR code. This will auto-populate with the record’s tracking code.
- Size: Move the slider to the appropriate size you wish to generate.
- Select “Generate” upon completion.
Assetas also has a built-in Encoder to create barcodes and QR codes for records without tracking codes (for example, form types). You must be logged in to use this feature.
- Copy the URL of the item you’d like to generate a QR code for.
- On the Encoder page, confirm the following fields. Data fields with an asterisk (*) are required.
- Encoded Information: Enter the URL you wish to encode in the QR code.
- Size: Move the slider to the appropriate size you wish to generate.
- Select “Generate” upon completion.
You may right-click on any barcode format to copy the image and use it elsewhere.
